You can make a village!!!! :D

ooh I like the gardens that are right next to the water

Hii. I just tried yours, and my opinion is:

  1. It's so laggy (heavy?) when I tried to place the object on the land.
  2. Probably could add feature to rotate the land, so I could see how the land looks like from the other side.
  3. Add name for objects (and it's function, not that important I think) probably could enhance the session. So the gamer could wonder less regarding what is these for, what are those for.
  4. Will this game later playable offline? Not in browser? I mean, if it's just one-go-play-session, it feels boring, frankly. But if people could play it offline, they could come back and continue their progress when they time.
  5. Probably could add "view layer" option. As in, gamer could see "blocks"/"area" that certain objects used, and placed other objects if the surrounding is still empty.
  6. Probably could also add "money system" to limit how many objects people can built in a session, and spirit could gave us fee (even if it's small) to build the village.

I also recorded my gameplay, but as I just finished it, it's still raw as for now. Also this game kinda reminds me of Dream Town Story by Kairosoft. I do, enjoyed playing the game, but I definitely didn't finished that whole town in just one go. It took days, and I was addicted to play it for hours back then. Other players could also "visit" our town, as tourist, and increase our money.

I hope this game could be better in the future :)

Also, if it's possible, a discord server probably is a good choice too for this small (?) fandom to grow further :)

awesome, I love seeing pictures of what people build. Thanks for the post and the feedback! I added it all to my to do list . I will definitely be adding in more interesting things to do while playing, like money and object names. I will be posting a major update to the game in the next few weeks with that!

When you said it's laggy- was it that way from the start, or only once you placed a bunch of objects down?

A discord is a good idea, I will message you if I end up creating one :)

the lag was felt throughout these process:

  1. I select an object
  2. Then I drag it to place in the land
  3. As I re-position my cursor to the object, the lag gone.

Probably a footage would explain better. I'll try to upload my gameplay tomorrow and link it to you then :)

that would be awesome!!!

Hii. Here is the gameplay footage from me. You can see how it's laggy when I tried to place an object, and stopped when I move my cursor back. Currently this gameplay is still unlisted, and will be available later for public on Friday, 25 March 2022, at 01 PM (UTC+7). Anyway, I hope this could help you find the bug(s) :)

thank you so much!!! that is super helpful for debugging :)

Absolutely love this game! it's super aesthetic and cute, but could you maybe add some sort of grass path? because I've noticed that the spirits only walk on the paths and I made a little garden but they won't go into the garden because there's no path... :<

And also maybe single flowers and single rocks? I think adding some variety would be nice.
Also wish it could save...

thank you for the feedback!!!

just last night I added the ability for spirits to walk on the grass if there is no available path because I was having the same problem.

all your other suggestions are now in my to do list doc :)

Thanks!

Loved this!!! So relaxing to build a cute island, coming from someone who does not usually play anything like this. Would you consider adding soothing music in the background? Also having little wild animals that appear and interact with the spirits in some way? Excited to see how it progresses!

<333333

ill add all of that!

Love this game! So so so cute and uplifting, nice little thing to play :) Hope there will be more content eventually x

wow thank you! i'm working on more content as we speak :)

That’s a nice game, I love the art and especially the cute noises the spirits make. The game quickly slowed down as I added things though. Also, it looks like a lot of spirit won’t explore the island and stay at the station instead - maybe they’re scared ?. Anyway, I had fun building my island and I’m curious about what you’ll add next!

that looks beautiful!!!! question- did you notice that the trees sway a little? I was wondering if I made that effect too subtle

they're probably a little scared, that seems much more likely to me than a bug in my code 😬

im going to look into the performance issues and spirits staying at the station bug this weekend! thanks for the feedback and ill keep you posted on updates

^ i fixed the lag and the spirits waiting at the station, thanks again for the feedback

Cute game, but really slow on 32GB of RAM. Slows down when placing houses. And then when there are ore spirits walking around.

ah thank you for the feedback!! I will work on optimizing it this weekend.

fixed up lag btw: https://aunty-games.itch.io/mystic-village/devlog/357125/005-fix-lag-fix-scared-spirits-

so much fun to make a village.  I wish I could really make a fence that easily!

hiya! nice work so far!

since you are looking for feedback, here's some ideas:

  • some relaxing tunes and/or sounds that are more soothing and less repetitive
  • ability to mute sound in game
  • ability to hide the ui
  • ability to zoom
  • ability to save (i guess that would only be possible with a download version?)
  • a variety of spirit behavior would be nice, either interacting with the items or with each other (i realize this is probably a #ton# of work though!)
  • on that note, i totally vote for a lil spirit who delivers the mail between mailboxes XD
  • a variety of spirit types would be sweet, but that may not be the vibe you're going for
  • it seemed that spirits grouped together create a lot of light. maybe the lightposts could glow a bit brighter similar to the spirits and the train headlight? this is an aesthetic choice so i wouldn't say it's necessary.
  • where is the bathhouse?!? haha, jk

these were the "issues" i ran into while playing:

  • i couldn't figure out to get all the spirits to explore the island. some would walk around but most of them stayed on the platform. do you know why this might have happened?
  • at least one of the spirits on my island seemed "stuck". it might(???) have been that i removed and replaced the building they were in (or near), but that didn't seem to be a problem for other spirits. maybe they were just bored. or shy.

  ( ꈍ ␣ ꈍ )

[i could add a screenshot but i doubt it would be useful.]

thank you SO much for all this feedback, you have no idea how much it means to me!! I'm going to add all your feedback to my doc and try to work on at least some of it. A couple notes:

-a spirit mail deliverer is the cutest idea I've ever heard

- I noticed that some of them just chill on the platform as well, I'll have to look into that. Im sure its that they're shy and definitely not a bug

- a variety of spirit types also sounds awesome. I need to do more planning on that as I want to decide whether it makes sense to have certain spirits have certain behaviors or if they all act the same but just come in many shapes and sizes

- bathhouse pending (gotta hire myself copyright a lawyer before I introduce yubaba and haku tho)

zoom: added

you stole my picture mode idea. I can't believe you!1!

that only adds zoom - im working on picture mode now and will push it in the next version release later today

This game looks amazing!

I'm in love with the graphics and the general vibe it gives off.

This sort of reminds me of Townscaper, it could totally work in a similar way where you could save and load your maps.

Ground elevation would also be a nice addition, although it's not an easy task to do.

Looking forward to updates! :)

thank you!!! townscaper was a big influence for sure. Ground elevation would make things look so beautiful. It will be a big undertaking but I'll add it to my list!

Hey really interesting game.

You plan to make some kind of devlog? Would be fun, also i think that a way to zoom in and out can be really cool.

(+2)

Awesome! I am planning to add zooming in next :)

I'd definitely do a devlog. Should I put it right here in itch.io?

(+1)

Yeah, offcourse!! I'm curious to see what you'll do next.

(+1)

i agree! since itch.io already has the functionality built in for devlogs, it seems like the perfect place to host it.

cool cool, this is my first game i've posted here so I wasnt sure if anyone actually looks at those lol

zoom: added

Add a picture mode, amazing game, thanks, love you, gl, love you again, do you accept? thank love

thanks! what do you mean by picture mode?

no UI, so Like when I screenshot it just shows the houses and land not the building mode stuff on the left

dope for coding simplicity im adding a button to disable menus and another button to download screenshots, ill post a devlog when its out

(+1)

THank you so mucn oml oml oml now everyone can see my masterpieces

I have lots to say about the game, but I would like to try and condense my rambling into a bullet list:

  • Goodness, that godly pixel art though!
  • Was this inspired by 'Spirited Away'? Because that is the first thing I thought of as soon as I saw the header image.
  • If I would add something into the game, maybe more variety of visitors and buildings (or interactive stalls, perhaps?)
  • Also a start screen and a pause feature?
  • More variety of music? Still, the current one is good.
  • Loved the implementation of the day/night cycle. It felt natural.

In short, I love it! It might not be engaging, but the game sticks to its own mechanics and purpose, as it is relaxing to play :)

yaaay thanks so much for the feedback! I added all of this to my to do list :) this was indeed inspired by wanting spirited away to be real haha

(+1)

Hey,

I really like the game so far.

Let me know if i could help you with anything.

thank you!! if you have any ideas for new content in the game that would be great!
